Federico Silva was born on September 16, 1923 in Mexico, D.F. Self-taught in the technologies of encaustic, fresh air and temperature, he managed to become an assistant to David Alfaro Siquieros with some of his murals. From 1950, Silva painted his own murals. Concerned with creative restlessness, he looked to other languages and with the 60s approaching and affecting sculpture, he was considered to be the forerunner of Kinetic Art in Mexico. He stimulated the creation of the sculptural space in the UNAM, where Helen Escobedo,Manuel Felguérez, and Goeritz. His work has received recognition and has been given validation in various ways such as:
- Revenue for the Academy of Arts of Mexico in 1991.
- Named Emeritus Creator of the National Council for Culture and Arts in 1993.
- He received the National Prize for Sciences and Arts in 1995.
- In 2002, as a reminder of his vitality over eight decades, he opened his first exhibition of Digital Graphic in the National Centre of Arts.
- On September 18, 2003, the people and authorities paid tribute to him by opening the doors of the first Contemporary Sculpture Museum in Mexico and more importantly of his type in Latin America.
- On August 23, 2010 U. A. S. L. P.Doctorate Honoris Causa granted to him
- On the occasion of 100 anniversary of the UNAM, the institution granted him in September 2010 the Doctorate Honoris Causa.
