The Location.
The origin of the Sector of San Juan de Dios dates back to 1611, when Juan de Zavala donated it to the Order of the Beato Juan of God.Up until then, it was his mineral benefiting estate which was used as a hospital, where Spanish and Indigenous were attended to, in the suburbs of  San Luis' Villa Fortune.

The Hospital was attended by Juaninos monks until 1825, when it was turned over to the State. In 1895 it became customs offices, a function that remained until 1905, the year in which the building was demolished leaving only the former temple, which then gave rise to what it was known as School I Shape. The School was inaugurated in September, 1907 as part of the Porfiriato educational project. It was kept as an educational space until the year 2000, when it surrendered to remodelisation, converting it into the Federico Silva Museum of Contemporary Sculpture.

The Building.
It is a Porfiriano building from 1907, which was the project of architect Antonio M. Anza and the construction of engineer Octaviano Cabrera. The building is of clear neoclassic lines, which has been covered with a contemporary structure that allows use of the original roof as exhibition rooms.
